影片主人公是位水手，在海上漂泊了整整20年。他是個孤獨的酒鬼，沒有任何朋友，和他睡覺的女人也都是為了錢。所有的慾望都已經從他的人生消逝。在一次去往“世界盡頭”烏斯懷亞的航行中，他向船長告假拜訪了這個白雪皚皚的童年時生活的小城。他發現，原來自己的老母親還在人世。他還有另外一位親人，正是後者一直在照顧著母親。這位從不相信任何人的水手，會有人走進他的生命裡嗎？
