龍五年前因錯手傷人而逃離香港，事過境遷，重返香港後在孤兒院遇見好友黃。此時黃已當牧師，而其女友May亦已嫁人。龍偶遇May，知其婚姻不美滿，又得悉其丈夫為黑幫頭目，遂勸May離開他。可惜May難逃魔爪，被其丈夫折磨致死。龍悲慟萬分，重開殺戒，殺盡目中仇人。孤兒院的孩子們將其視作心目中的英雄，極其崇拜。然而龍法網難逃，被處極刑。為免孩子們重蹈其覆撒，龍故意在眾人面前哭泣並高呼怕死，盡毀其英雄形象，唯有黃明白龍的苦心，喜極而泣，在他心中，龍這時才是真正的英雄。
