揭開塵封的歷史，凱撒大帝（Umberto Procopio 飾）所率領的羅馬帝國進攻高盧，征服大片的文明和民族。在戰火紛飛的年代，曾有女巫預言將出現獅子一般的強者顛覆羅馬人的統治，即使這段黑暗歷史長達千年。公元12世紀後半葉，亨利二世（馬爾科姆·麥克道威爾 Malcolm McDowell 飾）理查德（格雷戈·查蘭德 Gregory Chandler 飾）淪為階下之囚，遭受無數磨難。在生死存亡之際，他得到千年前女巫的啟示，必須經歷三次磨難、打破女巫的詛咒才能建功立業。在此之後，三次磨難接踵而至，在與世隔絕的陰森牢獄古堡，理查德必須接受父親——或許是來自命運的最重要的考驗……
